Massive dark matter haloes at high redshift: implications for observations in the JWST era

2023/12 Chen, Yangyao; Mo, H. J.; Wang, Kai

This is one of the most interesting discussions in modern cosmology: JWST observations seem to contradict the current ΛCDM cosmology.

The study aims to “alleviate this tension by incorporating uncertainties from three sources in counting galaxies: cosmic variance, error in stellar mass estimation, and backsplash enhancement.” (Chen et al, 2023).

Crowded No More: The Accuracy of the Hubble Constant Tested with High-resolution Observations of Cepheids by JWST

2023/10 Riess, Adam G.; Anand, Gagandeep S.; Yuan, Wenlong et al.

An equally fascinatnig discussion is made in this article. It compare JWST NIRCam observations of the Cepheids with ones made by the Huble Space Telescope, hoping to decrease observation bias.

It claims that “These observations provide the strongest evidence yet that systematic errors in HST Cepheid photometry do not play a significant role in the present Hubble Tension. Upcoming JWST observations of >12 SN Ia hosts should further refine the local measurement of the Hubble constant.” (Riess et al., 2023).

Objects in JWST’s mirrors are closer than they appear

2023/10 Serjeant, Stephen; Bakx, Tom J. L. C.

Again on the subject of he true age of the universe. One of the many puzziling observations made with JWST is a large amount of extremelly distant galaxies. Such big galaxies should not exist in the early ages of the universe, meaning the age calculations were wrong or that the observations show something different.

This study agues that the photometric redshifts observed with JWST are biased in a way predicted – in different contexts – by Sir Arthur Eddington in 1913, and they should be corrected downwards.

Fascinating.
